Dwelling near the southern shores of Antarctica in the warm months and migrating eastward as cold weather sets in, this species of Ningen, the "Walking Ningen", is a hardy, wandering behemoth. A "head on legs", this cryptid is predominantly terrestrial. Its eyesight best on land at night, it travels and hunts on land after twilight; its dense, short coat helps it blend into the environment. Evolving from ancient whales, this Ningen has vestigial arm-like fins. Minute and curled up against the neck, the limbs are entirely useless. Having a human silhouette, this Ningen often appears frightening to onlookers; it has been described as having a humanoid face with long, slit-like mouths and dark, empty eyes.

Like many Antarctic animals, the Walking Ningen delves into the ocean to hunt; taking in lungfuls of air, it crouches on the bed of deep water and flings into action when prey passes above. Their nostrils can be periodically spotted above water clearing their airways and taking a breath.
